Dr Mark Richard

Hand & Wrist

Hand & Wrist Surgeon, Dr. Richard knows: sometimes the most effective implant is the one that vanishes. A pioneer in upper extremity care, he works with SupraFusion anchors that become the bone. For surgeons focused on precision, healing, and future-proofing their work — this is the new gold standard.

“What has helped me think differently is the small footprint required for strong fixation in various types of bone. The exciting things are yet to come.”

One Word for Suprafusion – Innovative

  • My name is Dr. Mark Richard and I'm an orthopedic surgeon, specifically hand and upper extremity, and I work at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

  • Like many who choose orthopedic surgery, we often see one specific injury in a relatively healthy patient, and we can focus on returning them to their pre-injured state. That's very satisfying — to help people who generally want to get better return to full function.

  • The ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb and the collateral ligaments of the rest of the digits are commonly injured. The strength of the repair using the SupraFusion Anchors, as well as the very small footprint, has made it a real gamechanger in caring for these injuries.

  • The big feature that has helped me think a little differently through some injuries is that very small footprint that's required to get very strong fixation in different types of bone. I now have that in my armamentarium to help care for a wide variety of injuries.

  •  I think the exciting things are what is yet to come. There are a lot more options becoming available, and I'm excited to see how this technology helps us better care for upper extremity injuries.
